Getting started
Getting started
Mostly listening. Megan will spend time with the young person and, usually, some time with the parent or carer — in whatever combination feels right for the age and the situation. There's no homework, no clipboard, no expectation that anyone arrives with a clean explanation. We'll talk about what's bringing you in, what's worked and hasn't, and what would feel like progress.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. Parent meetings and assessment feedback sessions are usually 60 minutes.
Not to book — you can email or call us directly. You will need a referral from your GP and a Mental Health Care Plan if you want to claim the Medicare rebate. Your GP can do this in a normal appointment.
Roughly 5 to 25 for therapy, and ages 4+ for assessments. We also see parents and carers in their own right.

If your GP writes you a Mental Health Care Plan, you can claim $101.55 back per session, for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. You pay our full fee at the session, and Medicare deposits the rebate into your nominated account, usually within a day or two.
Yes — for self-managed and plan-managed participants. Our fees are at or below the NDIS price guide for clinical psychologists. We don't currently take agency-managed plans (the paperwork load is more than a one-admin-person clinic can sustain — sorry).
Many extras policies cover a portion of psychology sessions. The amount depends entirely on your level of cover, so we'd suggest a quick call to your insurer. We provide an invoice you can submit.
Therapy & how it works
Therapy & how it works
We ensure clients confidentiality is a top priority, which includes children and teens. As a general rule, what a young person shares with their psychologist stays private. Wherever possible, we aim to give young people autonomy over their own information. The level of independent confidentiality we can offer often depends on the young person's age and capacity. Older teenagers for example are generally given more control over what is and isn't shared with parents/guardians. That said, confidentiality isn't absolute, and as psychologists we work within clear legal and ethical limits. This includes: if there is a serious risk of harm to the young person or somone else, mandatory reporting obligations, or we are required to by a court or by law. Parents/guardians generally have a right to be invovled in their child's care, and we work to balance this with respecting the young person's growing independence. Where appropriate, we'll usually talk this through with both the young person and their parent/guardian in the first session.
Sometimes yes, sometimes no — it depends on the age, the goals, and what the young person may need. With younger children, parents are often part of most sessions. With teens, sessions are usually one-on-one with periodic check-ins with parents/guardians where needed. We'll talk about what makes sense for you specifically in the first session and adjust as we go.
There's no fixed answer — it depends on the therapeutic goals. Some people may only require 6 to 10 sessions for a specific goal. Others come fortnightly for several months. We check in regularly about whether sessions are still useful and stop when they're not.
Yes, for established clients and for parent/carer sessions. For first sessions and for working with younger children, we generally recommend in-person — the room matters more than you'd think.
Assessments
Assessments
From the first appointment to the feedback session, this usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks.
Medicare rebates do not generally apply to most diagnostic assessments. However, individuals under 25 may be eligible for up to 4 Medicare rebates for assessment appointments under a Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder referral, which can be prepared by a psychiatrist or paediatrician. Private health insurance or NDIS funding may be able to be used depending on circumstances and plan inclusions. Please check directly with your funder or provider for further clarification.
Generally yes. Assessment reports are routinely accepted by schools, NDIS planners, and prescribing paediatricians. If you have a specific use in mind, please let us know when enquiring to ensure we can support your needs.
